Coney Island

Fred Schuler is my father. On my 12th birthday in 1955, he took me and some of my friends to Coney Island.

While my friends and I were having fun on the rides, Dad was having fun too. He brought along his little Robot camera and made the images that you see on the following pages.

Neither my sisters nor I had seen these pictures until about 8 years ago when I found the negatives and made prints. We were astonished to discover Dad, 'the artist' with a flare for abstraction. Those who knew him might have thought these images to be very un-Fred like, but I think that they are exactly what he intended them to be.
